Community Futures: Using the Future in Collaborative Changemaking Part 2

This webinar is presented by the Tamarack Institute.

In part two of this two-part webinar series on community futures, we’ll dive deeper into some of the tools we can use to bring possible futures into the present and explore how we can apply this thinking to our efforts at shaping collective and collaborative work leading transformative change. We’ll investigate the highly interactive Futures Literacy Lab approach in more detail and discuss how it can help us to critically explore and interact with possible futures, new ways to approach collective resilience and risk aversion, and how we can co-design shared, actionable objectives for the near and mid-term.

If you are planning or are currently involved in collaborative, shared work with communities and have questions about how we might envision a longer-term, sustainable and transformative way to collectively map and navigate our complex, entangled world, this webinar will introduce some new and exciting ways of thinking and interacting with our shared futures.

While it builds on discussions from part 1 in this series, it’s a more practically focused webinar and can be attended even if you missed part 1.

Fundamentals of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD)

This event is presented by the Tamarack Institute.

# Build your community development toolkit

The complex challenges facing our communities today require us to think and work differently. We need to turn things upside down and shift our thinking to focus on what is already in our communities that we can build from through an Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. This approach recognizes the power that communities have to create change and helps people to form the trust and connections necessary to create and sustain vibrant, inclusive communities.

This workshops provides an introduction to Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) as a people-centered approach to planning. The ABCD approach looks for and starts with people's gifts and strengths (assets), when these assets are connected, they can then address the problems and challenges in their communities.

Join Heather Keam as we work through the foundations and principles of ABCD, including new and improved processes, and how to center community in your programs and activities. This workshop is an introductory session for those who are new to ABCD or want a refresher as ABCD has changed a lot over the past 10 years.

# What's included?

  • Workshop pre-learning and self-reflection exercise
  • 3.5 Hour Virtual Workshop
  • 1-Hour Coaching Session

# What will you learn?

Participants will work through the four actions of building a foundation of assets, connecting and identifying the functions of a community. There will also be an opportunity to explore how an ABCD lens can be applied to your current work.

 Participants will learn about:

  • ABCD as a people-centred approach
  • Resources in a community
  • Asset mapping
  • The functions of a community

This webinar is presented by the Ontario Caregiver Organization (OCO) and the Association of Family Health Teams of Ontario.

# Ontario’s 4 million caregivers matter.

Managing medication. Scheduling appointments. Communicating with healthcare teams. These are some of the critical tasks caregivers manage for family, friends and neighbours.  When they’re supported, they provide better care, improving health outcomes for patients.

  • Why caregivers matter,
  • The link between caregiver well-being and patient health,
  • Actionable steps primary care teams can take to reduce the risk of caregiver burnout (including practical resources to support you),
