  3. Building on the Momentum of Bill 41: AOHC Submits Response to New Standards for Public Health

Building on the positive momentum of successfully advocating for the inclusion of new objects for health equity and health promotion, AOHC has submitted a response to the New Standards for Public Health.

The new standards provide public health with a clear mandate to address health equity and determinants of health. Contained in our submission are several recommendations that speak primarily to concerns about the application of these standards as they could have an impact on AOHC members.

Adrianna Tetley states, “While I am hopeful that these new standards will strengthen our ties with public health given the many instances of collaboration, I believe we will need to be proactive in effectively educating the LHINs about the excellent work we do to address health equity and determinants of health.”

AOHC has been invited to participate on a senior MOHLTC table tasked with educating senior LHIN and Ministry staff about the new objects. Special emphasis will be placed on showcasing the very important and essential health promotion work our sector does to address the needs of the 22% of people living in Ontario who face barriers to access.
