Exploring the Lived Experiences of Internationally Educated Nurses Practicing in Ontario Healthcare Settings

If you are an internationally educated nurse (IEN) working in Ontario, you are invited the share your experiences and perspectives in this study, led by researchers at Trent University. IENs make valuable contributions to Ontario's healthcare system, but many of them encounter unique challenges as tey establish their professional careers here. By sharing your experiences, you can help the study team better understand:  

• How IENs perceive and enact their scope of nursing practice across healthcare settings in Ontario
• What IENs perceive as the barriers and facilitators to enacting their full scope of practice

This can help inform strategies to improve workplace experiences for current and future IENs. By participating, you will contribute to important research that aims to enhance support and policies for IENs across Ontario and that will give voice the the challenges experienced by IENs in this province. Participation will consist of an online interview via Zoom, lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

# Who can participate?

This study is open to IENs currently working in Ontario healthcare settings, including hospitals, rehabilitation centres, long-term care homes, community healthcare organizations, and primary care settings. 

To be eligible to participate, you must meet the following criteria: 

1. Registration and Licensing: You must be registered and licensed to practice as a registered practical nurse, registered nurse, or nurse practitioner in Ontario.
2. Employment Setting: You must currently work in a healthcare setting in Ontario. This includes hospitals, rehabilitation centres, long-term care homes, community healthcare organizations, and primary care settings.
3. Experience: You must have at least six months of experience in your current work setting.
4. Educational Background: You must have completed your nursing education outside Canada and received credentials from an international nursing school.
5. Language: You must be able to communicate in English to participate in the interview.
