# What is Social Prescribing Day
Social Prescribing Day is an annual event celebrated around the world during the month of March. It is a day that honours and acknowledges the strides made in the field of social prescription. Numerous roles work together to fulfill the goal of delivering cohesive, holistic, community-based care and support people to attain the highest degree of health and wellbeing. On this day, we thank all link workers, navigators, community connectors, primary care providers, organizations, community members and partnering associations for the work that they do.

# The Art of Prescribing: Advancing Arts-Based Pathways to Health
As social prescribing continues to gain traction across the U.S. and globally, the arts are emerging as a powerful and evidence-informed modality for improving health and well-being. In recognition of Social Prescribing Day 2026, this webinar will explore the growing momentum of arts-based approaches within social prescribing frameworks. Speakers will highlight how arts and cultural engagement support mental health, social connection, and community resilience, while sharing examples of implementation across health, public health, and community settings. The webinar will also examine what other social prescribing modalities—such as nature-based and service-oriented prescribing—can learn from arts prescribing. Participants will gain insight into why the arts matter in social prescribing, what’s driving current growth, and how cross-sector partnerships can help sustain and scale this work.
Featured Panelists:
- Dr. Daisy Fancourt Author, "Art Cure: The Science of How the Arts Save Lives"
- Dr. Jill Sonke U.S. Cultural Policy Fellow, Stanford University
- Dr. Mark Clague Executive Director, Arts Initiative at the University of Michigan

What is Social Prescribing
Social prescribing bridges the gap between clinical and social care by referring patients to local, non-clinical services that are chosen according to the client’s interests, goals, and gifts. It allows doctors, nurse practitioners, and interprofessional health providers to formally refer patients to community-based programs. It empowers clients to improve their health by developing new skills, participating in meaningful activities, and becoming more connected to their communities.
