#Combatting Isolation and Empowering Human Connection Through Social Prescribing

Access Alliance is excited to host a Human Connection Event during Ontario's Community Health and Wellness Week at AccessPoint on Danforth.

The need for interpreter services has never been greater. Good, clear, and accurate communication is essential in delivering exceptional care to any child or youth.  When families enter a healthcare organization and do not speak one of the official languages, they are often at their most vulnerable state. Organizations should have interpreter services that are accessible, and staff should be provided with the tools necessary to provide the highest quality interpreter services to their families. CHEO has recently expanded their interpreter services. The aim of this webinar is to share these new services and strategies. 

Many community workers support clients who want to apply for permanent resident status in Canada. One way to do this is by making a Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) application. An H&C is a request to apply for PR status from inside Canada that is based on all of the person’s circumstances.

This webinar will outline important details about the H&C process - who can apply and what supporting evidence community workers can help clients gather. Our speakers will also share resources, tips, and cautions about making an H&C application. 

 ASL Interpretation will be provided.

Join the Indigenous Primary Health Care Council (IPHCC)  for an insightful webinar, Unpacking the Pillars of the IPHCC Data Governance Framework, to delve into the complexities of the IPHCC Data Governance Framework, understanding its vision, principles, and structural elements. Designed for a one-hour deep dive, this session provides stakeholders with a detailed perspective on the framework and its importance for Indigenous data governance in Ontario. How do we prevent falls in older adults without being overprotective? For those who are frail or approaching frailty, daily activities create risk for falls.  The term “dignity of risk” was introduced by Perske in 1972 who stated “in the past, we found clever ways to build avoidance of risk into the lives of persons living with disabilities. We have learned there can be crippling indignity in safety. Prioritizing safeguarding over the rights of individuals to independent decision-making is a limitation on personal freedom.

#About the presentation

In June 2023, BC Stats released a Guide on Using Categorical Race and Ethnicity Variables to support anti-racism research in British Columbia. This tool will help users of administrative and survey data to appropriately and consistently incorporate race and ethnicity variables into their projects. In this talk, Tatiana Kim discusses the challenges and lessons learned in the process of developing it as well as implications for research in British Columbia.

CPHA’s Normalizing Conversations project team has partnered with CAPSA to develop a workshop titled “Challenging Structural Substance Use Stigma” for health and social service providers. Over the last few months, CPHA and CAPSA have worked with community partners across Canada to pilot this workshop online. We are excited to invite those in the Ottawa area to attend our first in-person session!
