More info

A team of researchers at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is conducting a study to better understand how adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) (for example, autism, Down syndrome, intellectual disability, and FASD) get care from family doctors, nurse practitioners, and other health care providers in Ontario. They also want to understand what works well and what could be better. In particular, they are interested in understanding how different primary care models support adults with IDD.

# Who can participate?

For this study, researchers are looking for primary care providers who work alone or in teams and provide care for adults with IDD

They are also conducting a study on the same topic where they will interview primary care clients with IDD or family caregivers of clients with IDD.

# What does participation involve?

  • Solo providers will will take part in an individual interview with a member of the research team. Interviews will last approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

  • Providers who work in an professional team or group context also have the option to participate through a focus group. Focus groups will last approximately 30 to 60 minutes.

Sessions will take place online using WebEx, by telephone (for individual interviews), or in person for those living in the Greater Toronto Area.

Participants will receive compensation after completing the interview or focus group as a thank-you for their time. If you are traveling for an in-person interview or focus group, you also will be compensated for travel costs (e.g. TTC, parking, taxi, mileage).

There is no cost to participate, and taking part is completely voluntary. Your decision will not affect any present or future services provided by CAMH. Everything you share in the interview or focus group will be kept confidential.
