A peer-led gathering to remember people lost to the drug toxicity crisis and strengthen the call for compassion, justice and meaningful change. The event features an interactive memorial project, harm reduction information, naloxone, refreshments and opportunities for community connection.

This International Overdose Awareness Day event is organized by Chatham-Kent Public Health, Reach Out Chatham-Kent and the Chatham-Kent Community Drug Strategy.

Kathy Moreland of Moms Stop the Harm will share her lived-experience journey as a mother who lost her 18-year-old son, Austin, to fentanyl toxicity. The session will connect personal experience with the need to challenge stigma and advance harm reduction, naloxone, voluntary treatment, supportive housing and equitable substance-use healthcare.

This conference, Moving Upstream: Advancing the science of structural determinants of health, comes at a critical moment as we seek to deepen our understanding of the structural determinants of health, identify key knowledge gaps, and chart a path forward for research, policy, and practice. The event will convene academics, research funders, policymakers, health system leaders, and trainees who are committed to advancing work in this area.
