# About the position 

 The Stonegate Community Health Centre is seeking 3 Youth Recreational and Leisure Activities Counsellors.  Acting as a member of an interdisciplinary team you will provide leadership to children and youth, including the development and implementation of activities including virtual programs. 

This contract position is 35 hours per week; for 8 weeks and is funded by Services Canada. 

This position reports to the Director, Health Promotion.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the organizing, design and implementation of summer recreational and sports programs for children 6 to 12 years of age.
  • Assist with the implementation of EarlyOn programs on a as needed basis.
  • Assist with the supervision of program participants.
  • Assist with outreach for children and youth programs.
  • Assist in maintaining and seeking out resources and activities for children and youth.
  • Assist with maintaining and uploading programs and resources to our children and youth Facebook page, you tube and Instagram.
  • Other duties as required.

Families and Community:

  • Make appropriate referrals to other Stonegate CHC (SCHC) programs and provide information about other community programs and services.
  • Work with families to help them understand healthy adolescent development and provide information on a variety of parenting topics.
  • Participate in the implementation of health education/promotion programs.

# Qualifications

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.(international students are ineligible)

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment.

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment term.

  • Available to work 35 hours per week.

  • Experience in facilitating community based recreational/social programs for children and youth.
  • Experience in program design and implementation of social and recreational activities for children and youth.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.  A second language and knowledge of cultural groups appropriate to the Stonegate catchment area would be a definite asset.  (Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Serbian, Croatian, Albanian and Spanish)
  • Currently enrolled or completion of ECE, Child/Youth or Recreational Leisure program an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent computer skills.
