To mark International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) 2026, the HSE National Social Inclusion Office will host a free live webinar on Monday 31st August from 8:00-9:30 am. 

As part of the world’s annual campaign to raise awareness of drug-related overdose, the HSE invite guests to join the event to help end overdose, remember those who have died without stigma and acknowledge the grief experienced by family and friends left behind.

This International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) Event is organized by the Harm Reduction Advocacy Collective

Woven Memories is a community gathering marking International Overdose Awareness Day and creating space to remember and honour people whose lives have been lost to the overdose crisis. The event will include a grief gathering alongside the We Miss You Still installation and the launch of the Memorial Quilt Project. Community members are invited to come together in remembrance, grief, connection and solidarity.

This in-person International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) event is presented by On The Road 4 Mental Health.

The event concludes the 2026 Steps to Remember initiative, a series of walks marking ten years since the recognition of Canada's opioid crisis. The August 31 closing event will include a vigil and speakers representing mental health, overdose awareness and harm reduction organizations.

The event will begin at the Canadian Tribute to Human Rights Monument in Ottawa and end at Parliament Hill.
