Shift the conversation to what matters most

In the weeks leading up to Community Health and Wellbeing Week AOHC will feature a series of stories that describe the work of community-governed primary care centres addressing the domains of life that have a major impact on health and wellbeing. The need to take action was highlighted recently in the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) Ontario composite report: How are Ontarians Really doing?

The CIW report identified a decline in the democratic engagement, environment, engagement in leisure and culture, time use and living standards domains in Ontario. These findings demonstrate the need for upstream investments into our communities, in order to achieve the best possible health and wellbeing for everyone.

Our stories will demonstrate how AOHC member centres are leading by example with community initiatives that are improving these domains of life.

Measuring What Matters

AOHC recently released a discussion paper called:  Measuring What Matters:  How the Canadian Index of Wellbeing can improve quality of life in Ontario. The paper outlines the ways the index's framework can be applied at the provincial, regional and local level to improve health and wellbeing. It also offers details about how the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW)  is already being put into action by municipal governments, funders and a significant number of Ontario's Community Health Centres.
