REGISTER: People's Shadow Summit & Rally for Medicare

July 24 – 25

During the Council of the Federal annual meeting with all the Premiers on July 24-25 in Niagara- on- the- Lake, the Ontario Health Coalition is holding a Shadow Summit to push for the renewal of the National Health Accord and federal support for Medicare. The event includes workshops, media events and a rally on July 25th at 11am to call on the federal government to get back to the table to renew the Health Accord which expires in 2014.

Our Vision

All Ontarians have access to not-for-profit, community-governed, interprofessional primary health care.

Our Mission

The AOHC provides leadership for the promotion of not-for-profit, community-governed, interprofessional primary health care grounded in the social determinants of health.

Our Members

AOHC has 3 types of members, all of whom are community-governed and not-for-profit:

Chairperson
Executive Director

Full Membership

Eligibility:

  • Incorporated as a not-for-profit, community-governed organization or be recognized by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada as a First Nations Government and offers community-based interprofessional primary healthcare services and health promotion programs, including Community Health Centres (CHCs), Aboriginal Health Access Centres (AHACs), community  Family Health Teams (CFHTs) and community Nurse Practitioner-led Clinics (NPLCs)
  • Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision, values and beliefs of AOHC (see attached);   
  • Governed by a Board that is accountable to its membership, as demonstrated by the organization’s bylaws; and
  • Operates in Ontario.

Full Members have the right to receive notice of, attend and participate in the discussion of matters properly before the Members, and vote on matters properly before the Members.

Associate Membership

Eligibility:

  • Incorporated as a not-for-profit, community-governed organization or be recognized by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada as a First Nations Government;
  • Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision, values and beliefs of AOHC (see attached);
  • Governed by a Board that is accountable to its membership, as demonstrated by the organization’s bylaws; and
  • Operates in Ontario.

Organizations eligible for Full Membership are not eligible for Associate Membership.

Associate Members have the right to receive notice of and to attend all duly constituted meetings of the Members, and to participate in the discussion of matters properly before the Members.  Associate Members do not have the right to vote at meetings of Members.

Emerging Group Membership

Eligibility:

  • Consists of a community group that aspires to become (including but not limited to) a CHC, CFHT, AHAC or community NPLC;
  • Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision, values and beliefs of AOHC (see attached);
  • Plans to incorporate as a not-for-profit, community governed primary healthcare    organization that offers health promotion programs; and
  • Operates in Ontario.

Organizations are eligible for Emerging Group status only until it receives its operating budget from the Primary funder.  At that time, Emerging Groups must apply for Full Membership. 

Emerging Group Members have the right to receive notice of and to attend all duly constituted meetings of the Members, and to participate in the discussion of matters properly before the Members.  Emerging Group Members do not have the right to vote at meetings of Members.

On this National Day of Action for Refugee Health, the Association of Ontario Health Centres (AOHC) appeals to the Federal Government to reinstate the refugee healthcare coverage provided by the Interim Federal Health program.
