Contract Position: 24.5 hours per week
Contract Duration: January 2019 to March 2019 (approx. 3 months)
Salary Range: $33.25 per hour to $39.24 per hour

LAMP Community Health Centre is a multi-service, community based charitable organization that provides a wide range of programs and services to improve a person's health. LAMP uses a co-ordinated approach to connect people to medical services and other programs that build personal resources. By providing services that improve physical, emotional, social and economic well-being, people can better control their health and environment.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Allied Health Programs, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, the physiotherapist provides service through individual treatment, groups, or consultation to families & caregivers at the centre or in the community. This role provides the opportunity to set up the inaugural physiotherapy service at the centre.

Primary Responsibilities

The Physiotherapist will assess, identify and analyze strengths and impairments related to physical activities. The therapist will then develop and implement a therapeutic program involving appropriate, goal-oriented interventions, working toward functional goals agreed upon with the patient. The Physiotherapist is an on-site resource for the team for issues related musculoskeletal pain and injury.

  • Program set –up and implementation: understanding needs of community and client caseload at centre, designing clinical spaces and programming as appropriate, setting up relevant inclusion criteria and paperwork for clinical interventions, evaluating initial stages of program implementation.
  • Client Management: includes assessment, treatment, and discharge, determining short and long term goals with clients, implementing treatment plans, delegating appropriate tasks to Physiotherapy assistant.
  • Communication: recording relevant assessment and treatment data in electronic health record (Nightingale on Demand), attending case conferences as appropriate, consulting with other members of clients healthcare team.
  • Administration: managing time, prioritizing and maintaining schedules and appointment dates, assisting with planning and evaluating programs, participating in chart audits and quality improvement initiatives, maintaining current professional membership and licensure, promote evidence based practice.
  • Supervision: supervising and overseeing activities of Physiotherapy Assistants, legally responsible for their actions.

Required Qualifications

  • Current registration, in good standing, with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. 
  • Well-developed professional skills which include: the ability to work within an interdisciplinary team setting, the ability to collaborate and consult with clients and community caregivers, excellent assessment, treatment and consultative skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, the ability to work in a variety of settings, and the ability to problem-solve creatively.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement clinical initiatives.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and caseload management skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to maintain professional standards of practice and clinical competencies according to College guidelines and participate in continuing education in order to upgrade skills and keep abreast of new developments in adult and geriatric rehabilitation. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a changing environment which demands high productivity, organizational skills and flexibility. 
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing referral patterns based on needs of clients, community and centre priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete statistics accurately and write reports in a timely manner. 
  • Willingness to participate in a criminal reference screening process.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records.
  • Understanding of relevant privacy legislation.
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of problem solving, decision making and interpretive skills.
  • Versatility and adaptability to fulfill the multi-dimensional role of clinician, educator and administrator.
  • Time management skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • Ability to speak a second language that is representative of EMCHCs populations is an asset.
  • Representative of one of the centre’s priority populations an asset.

Proficiency in the Following Computer Skills

  • Microsoft suite of programs.
  • Electronic Health Records (Nightingale ON Demand).

Working Conditions

  • Ability to effectively understand the appreciation of guiding fundamentals at LAMP, i.e. Health Promotion, Anti-Oppression; Harm Reduction and the principles of community-based practice.
  • Primarily Monday to Friday days.
  • Must be able to physically do the job.
  • There is an expectation for all employees to participate in one event per year for the agency; these events may be during the evening or on a weekend.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to effectively understand the appreciation of guiding fundamentals at LAMP, i.e. Health Promotion, Anti-Oppression; Harm Reduction and the principles of community-based practice.
  • Ensures that staff and clients are compliant with LAMP’s Health & Safety regulations and LAMP’s policies and procedures, including the immediate reporting of any breaches of Health & Safety or Environmental incidents, accidents or concerns to their respective manager/supervisor and/or the Director, Human Resources and Operations.
