Unison Health and Community Services is a non-profit, community-based organization that serves neighbourhoods in North West Toronto. Operating out of five locations (soon to be six), Unison offers core services that include primary health care, counselling, health promotion, Early Years programs, legal services, harm reduction programs, housing assistance, adult protective services, Pathways to Education and a Diabetes Education program.

Unison’s mission is working together to deliver accessible and high quality health and community services that are integrated, respond to needs, build on strengths and inspire change. Unison’s focus is on priority populations in North West Toronto.

We work from an inclusive, sex positive, harm reduction, anti-racist, pro-choice, anti-oppression, and participatory framework in addressing the issue of access to health care for our mandated priority populations encompassing all the determinants of health.

Developed in Partnership with Planned Parenthood and Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre, Unison is opening a sixth site in the community of Oakwood-Vaughan.

At this time, Unison is seeking a Community Health Physician for the Oakwood-Vaughan Youth Clinic. Reporting to the Clinical and Allied Health Site Manager for Lawrence Heights and Oakwood Vaughan, and with direction from the Clinic Coordinator, the Community Health Physician for the Oakwood-Vaughan Youth Clinic, will be primarily responsible for providing walk-in health care to youth in areas of sexual and reproductive health including trans care, mental health, and addictions.

This Community Health Physician will have strong clinical and youth-friendly interpersonal skills to complement our team.

The successful candidate will have:

  • License to practice medicine and membership in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario;
  • Availability to work evenings and Saturdays
  • Demonstrated experience in community-based primary care settings that focus on youth
  • Ability to manage all aspects of reproductive health including insertion and removal of IUDs Prescribe relevant medications and provide follow up care to clients requesting medical abortions
  • Ability to provide hormone therapy to trans clients
  • Ability to do venipuncture or be prepared to learn
  • Acts as primary liaison and consult with the Nurse Practitioner in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of clients
  • Maintain professional development related to youth, general healthy sexuality and specific job responsibility issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to the impact of social, economic, environmental and cultural issues on the health of marginalized youth
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team of clinical and program staff
  • Commitment to pro-choice philosophy
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity goals and principles, to sexual and reproductive rights, to being youth positive, LGBTTQ2+ positive and sex positive and to being inclusive of diverse sexual and gender identities
  • Commitment to working from a harm reduction, community development perspective
  • Ability to speak a second language an asset.
