On behalf of the Aboriginal Health Centres Executive Director Circle, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Decision Support Specialist with solid knowledge of Indigenous communities to join the dynamic team at the Association of Ontario Health Centres (AOHC).

The Decision Support Specialist is a highly visible position dedicated to provide coaching, leadership and facilitation support with direction/approval/support from the Aboriginal Health Centres Executive Director Circle to meet the business intelligence needs of the Aboriginal Health Centres sector.

The position works closely with the Aboriginal Health Centres Executive Director Circle, Aboriginal Health Centres management teams and staff and AOHC staff as required. The Decision Support Specialist will work closely with the Community Health Centre Regional Decision Support Specialists where appropriate and reports to AOHC’s Chief Information Officer in collaboration with the Director, Aboriginal Health Centre Strategy and Transformation. 


You will:

  • Facilitate, lead and coach Aboriginal Health Centres in meeting their accountability responsibilities through indicator development, information production and analysis of outputs;
  • Work with Aboriginal Health Centres personnel (e.g. Data Management Coordinators, clinicians, managers, Executive Directors) to build capacity for supporting Decision Support activities;
  • Support  sector committees;
  • Participate as a member of the Performance Management Team, and serve as a subject matter expert to Regional Decision Support Specialists and Community Health Centres where appropriate;
  • Use data to tell the Aboriginal Health Centres story, including preparation of the Aboriginal Health Centres for the twice yearly ICES reports on complexity of care and determining panel size;
  • Assist Aboriginal Health Centres in quality improvement;
  • Assist Aboriginal Health Centres in development of funding accountability agreement;
  • Provide appropriate data, analysis and interpretation at a provincial, sector and individual Aboriginal Health Centre level to:
    • provide better care through informed decision making at practice level, management level and board level;
    • facilitate the development of best practices across Aboriginal Health Centres.

Qualifications and Experience:

Understanding of Indigenous Communities

  • Proven experience working within Indigenous communities;
  • Must have knowledge of Indigenous cultures and communities across Ontario;
  • Must have knowledge of the impacts of colonization and residential schools and current community priorities for reconciliation and change;
  • Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree considered an asset;
  • Conducts work in keeping with the Aboriginal Health Centres/ Aboriginal Community Health Centres commitment to the model of wholistic health and wellbeing, health equity, anti-oppression, Indigenous Cultural Competency and as per the Ontario Government Employment and Safety legislation.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Master’s degree in health studies, health informatics, information management, biostatistics, epidemiology or public health;
  • Candidates who are currently enrolled in these programs may be considered for mentorship;
  • Mentorship opportunities are available for qualified candidates;
  • Understanding of community-based, interprofessional team base approach to health care delivery;
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a health or social services environment, specifically working in quality improvement, planning and/or performance or data management;
  • Grounding in quantitative data analysis, data cleaning and quality improvement processes;
  • Demonstrated competencies in statistical programs such as SPSS and SAS;
  • Knowledge of health service utilization and Electronic Medical Record data;
  • Experience in using and linking data from multiple sources;
  • Knowledge of impacts of history on Indigenous data, community health; infrastructure and priorities highly preferred;
  • Experience working within Indigenous service providers and communities in the advancement of health and wellness highly preferred;
  • Knowledge and experience working with Indigenous health data considered an asset.


  • Highly skilled in the area of quality improvement, planning and/or performance or data management;
  • Successful and effective coaching, leadership and facilitation skills;
  • Strong understanding of indigenous data governance principles;
  • Strong time management and excellent organizational skills to balance varying priorities and assignments, often with strict deadlines;
  • Superior people skills, communication and influencing skills;
  • Demonstrated superb project management skills;
  • Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with stakeholder organizations;
  • Ability to work effectively on team projects; self-motivation and experience in making independent judgments within the context of established assignments, policies and procedures;
  • Creative problem-solving skills;
  • General understanding of the Community Health Centre and Aboriginal Health Centre sector an asset;
  • Proficiency in the use of Windows and Microsoft Office software applications: Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook;
  • Conducts work in keeping with AOHC’s commitment to Anti-Oppression, Cultural Competency, Indigenous Cultural Safety and as per the Ontario Government Employment and Safety legislation.

Annual Salary Range:  $64,300 to $80,300

Compensation:  AOHC offers competitive salaries and an excellent benefits package, including pension with HOOPP. Salary is commensurate on qualifications, experience and is set within the AOHC’s established salary grid and policy guidelines.

This position will include opportunities for collaboration and mentorship with the Indigenous Our Health Counts Survey and Well Living House Indigenous research team.
