On June 12-13, 2019, the Alliance for Healthier Communities in partnership with the Canadian Association of Community Health Centres will co-host a national Community Health Connections conference. We hope you will be able to join over 600 health care professionals, board members, Indigenous leaders, researchers, physicians and community partners from across Canada to connect with and learn from each other.
During this federal election year, the conference will provide a platform to shine a spotlight on Canadian health concerns, historical issues impacting health, shared advocacy and solutions to improve health and wellbeing. The two-day conference will explore various topics including (but not limited to):
- newcomer health,
- pharma and dental care,
- truth and reconciliation,
- community governance,
- housing, and
- health equity.
The format of the conference will be slightly different from previous years. In addition to four thought-provoking plenaries, it will feature 16 curated concurrent sessions, and two bus tours, that will delve deeper into the issues that are of interest to you and your colleagues across the country. The conference will also bring more networking opportunities to ensure you can take full advantage of connecting with leaders, innovators and health champions from Ontario and other provinces.
There will be no specific call for learning sessions this year because of the national format. Instead, look to these other ways to highlight your great work:
Practice and Research Posters
Let your work inspire others! Present the work your team is doing, research or other innovation in a poster format. This will be a valuable opportunity to tell your colleagues from across Canada about your project. To participate, please submit a brief abstract (200 words max) by February 11, 2019, to conference@allianceON.org.
Transformative Change Awards
Every year, Transformative Change Awards recognize and celebrate health champions within our membership who work at the forefront of transformative change to help achieve the best possible health and wellbeing for everyone in Ontario. The awards are presented at the Conference Awards Gala, and award recipients are featured in professionally-produced videos. It is a great opportunity to spotlight the ground-breaking, innovative work your organization is doing. And with the national conference in Ottawa next year, the 2019 award recipients will be celebrated in front of a larger, Canada-wide audience. Learn more about how to submit your nomination.
Connections are vital to community health. We can’t wait to connect with you at Community Health Connections 2019!
